Lieutenant Carey was killed when she was run over by a suspect
during an undercover drug buy in a restaurant parking lot. Officers
attempted to arrest the suspect put he put the vehicle in reverse,
struck Lieutenant Carey, and dragged her 30 feet. Other officers on
the scene shot and killed the suspect.
Heroin was found in the suspect's vehicle.
Lieutenant Carey had been with the Clayton Police Department for
over two years, and had been in law enforcement for almost ten
years.
She is survived by her husband, son, and daughter.
