Reserve Clarke County Sheriff Deputy Robert Goodwin was killed at 9:30 a.m. on Highway 512 west of Quitman Goodwin was overseeing inmates who were picking up trash when he was struck by a pickup truck. At the time of the accident, Goodwin was loading trash bags onto the back of a police vehicle.
Goodwin had retired from Burlington and since 1992 had worked part time as a reserve deputy for Clarke County and was currently also working as a part-time police officer for the town of Enterprise.
The department's inmate trash pickup initiative just began this week and this was only Goodwin's second day on the job. "He loved law enforcement. He loved people. He loved this county. He loved this community. Robert was a fine man and he will surely be missed. The sheriff said charges are not expected to be filed in the case. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

I pray for each and every family member for the loss that they have received.  God is watching over each and every one of you and we all pray that the families will reconige that the officers put their lives on the line each and every day so that all citizen can be a little safer each and every day.  I pray that each family member know Jesus Christ is their personal savior.  AMEN

My heart goes out to each and every member of the Goodwin Family. Robert was not only a Deputy at our Dept. he was not only my personal friend, but Robert was Family. Robert even though your presents is felt each and everyday at the office, you will be sadly missed forever.
