Trooper Knapp 28 was
in Kendall County working with a task force when he was killed, struck by another vehicle after loosing lost control of his patrol car. Trooper Knapp driving eastbound on I-10 from U.S. 87at about 10:30 p.m. entered the middle of the road, lost control and skidded into the westbound lanes. A car driven by a woman from Junction traveling in the westbound lane collided with the passenger side of Trooper Knapp's patrol car. Knapp was taken by AirLife to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he died at 12:27 a.m. The other vehicles driver, Donna Wilkerson, 47. and her passenger Leonard Wilkerson, 55 of Junction, were also taken to University Hospital in San Antonio. Knapp was raised in Kerrville and was assigned to the DPS office in Fredericksburg, Knapp, a five-year veteran, is the 77th DPS officer to die in the line of duty.
Trooper Knapp had served 5 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Trooper Knapp was born in Prescott, Ariz., and raised in Kerrville, Texas. He graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville in May 1994 and received his Associates degree from Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas, in May 1996. Trooper Knapp is survived by his wife, a young son and daughter.

Knapp joined the DPS in October 1998 and graduated from the Training Academy in April 1999. His first duty station as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper was in Ozona. He was promoted to Trooper II
in April 2003
and transferred to Fredericksburg in June 2003. Trooper Knapp had received several commendations.

I pray for each and every family member for the loss that they have received.  God is watching over each and every one of you and we all pray that the families will reconige that the officers put their lives on the line each and every day so that all citizen can be a little safer each and every day.  I pray that each family member know Jesus Christ is their personal savior.  AMEN
