A National Park Service Ranger Suzanne E. Roberts who used to live in Colorado was killed when a boulder fell 40 feet and struck her as she was attempting to remove rocks from the roadway at Haleakala National Park.Suzanne E. Roberts, 36, who had worked at the Maui park since April, was struck by a boulder -- which was more than
3-feet in diameter -- as she was removing rocks on Hana Highway on the east side of the island. Witnesses used the ranger's radio in her car to call for help. Roberts was airlifted to the Hana Community Health Center, where she was pronounced dead. "Suzi was doing what rangers do. She was making the place safe for others. The Park Service said Roberts served in Rocky Mountain National Park before transferring to Haleakala, and had lived in Winter Park, Colo.

Suzanne died at the hospital.
