Tenn. Police in Harriman say the storm that had been Hurricane Ivan contributed to the death of an officer overnight. Authorities say Patrolman Matthew Rittenhouse's police car hydroplaned on U-S 27 as heavy rain fell just after eleven p-m. Police clerk Jessica Fink says the patrol car landed on its top and broke Rittenhouse's neck. The 25-year-old officer had been with the Harriman force for about three years. The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

I worked with Matt Rittenhouse for a few years as his sergeant for one. Even when you had to get on to Matt for something he did, you would have to smile after you walked
away because the things he did were so priceless. He once caught some teenagers toilet papering a house and made them all sing "I'm a little tea pot" while he video taped it. That was Matt, he was a bother, a friend, and one of the best police officers I've ever known. I will miss him. Law on, Matt.
