47-year-old colleague Edward "Skip" Schroeder Jr. He died Monday
morning while in training at the Deputy Sheriffs Training Academy in
State College. He was on the 12th lap of a 12-lap indoor running
exercise on the facility's track when he collapsed, said Sheriff
Bill Hose. "Apparently, he had a heart attack and they were unable
to revive him," he said. "We're just devastated." Hose said people
immediately ran to Schroeder with a defibrillator, a device that
uses electric current to stabilize a heartbeat, but it was
ultimately not successful. He said three other York County deputies,
Scott
Davidson, Michael Krug and William Kell, were with Schroeder at the
19-week mandatory training.
Deputy Schroeder was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He had served with
the York County Sheriff's Department for 18 months and was survived
by his wife and mother.
