Officer Rogers suffered a massive heart attack and passed away
on Tuesday, January 18, 2005
after breaking up a
fight between two juveniles in front of Irma Marsh Middle
School. After
separating the two juveniles, Officer Rogers attempted to place
one of the suspects into custody but the juvenile remained
combative. He was able to handcuff the juvenile as the agency's
chief responded to the scene. Officer Rogers
returned to his patrol car to obtain his citation book. When
Officer Rogers failed to return to the building, the chief went
outside and found him leaning against his patrol car having
trouble breathing. Rogers then
collapsed and was air lifted to a local hospital and was
pronounced dead 30 minutes later.
Officer Rogers began his law enforcement career as a reserve
officer at the Westworth Village Police Department in 1997. He
became a full-time officer in September 1998. Officer Rogers
left the Westworth Police Department to work for the Castleberry
ISD Police Department in August 2004. He had discovered a whole
new outlook on police work and a joy in working with the
children and staff at the school district. Officer Rogers had an
unconditional love of life and family.
Officer Rogers worked primarily at the Irma Marsh Middle School
campus. The district is supporting both students and staff with
grief counseling services.
Officer Rogers had served with the Castleberry ISD Police
Department for 2 years, and had previously served with the
Westworth Police Department as an auxiliary officer and full
time officer for 7 years. He is survived by his wife Susan, son,
and four grandchildren. |
