Kansas sheriff
was
shot and killed after serving an arrest warrant. The suspect was
arrested after barricading himself in a house for most of the day.
Kansas Bureau of Investigation, said Greenwood County Sheriff Matt
Samuels and two deputies went to a house Wednesday morning to
serve felony warrants on someone at the home. It was not immediately
known whether the suspect in
the shooting was the person named in the warrant.
The man was taken into custody by the Kansas Highway Patrol SRT
later in the night. During the arrest the suspect fired several
rounds at the team, striking the ballistic shields. Sheriff Samuels
had served
with the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office for 21 years and had
served as Sheriff for 5 years.
He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.

To Matt Samuels family,
My prayers are with the family, I grew up with Matt, he was my cousin
only a year a part, My Uncle Charlie was sheriff before him, and My
granddad before him, so it runs in my family. He was so proud to
follow in his fathers and granddad footsteps. It was a honor for him,
and hope it will follow with his son Heath. He was well known and
deeply missed to all that new him. Denyse Waldrip Tucson Az

Although I knew Matt for only a short period of time, it was a
distinct pleasure and with much respect in knowing him. I will never
forget the day he knocked on my door just to welcome myself and my
family to the area and to introduce himself to me. No one else ever
has done that to this day. May the creator of this universe be with
you all. Shalom!

Matt was a good man, father, husband, and sheriff. He was taken from
this earth too soon. He will
remain in the hearts of those who knew
and loved him and will be remembered always. May he rest in peace.

Matt, (and I know you're reading this), you were a fun little dude
when you were knee high to me, and you were a fun big dude when you
grew up. I very much enjoyed playing golf with you and will miss our
mens night golf outings that were so much fun when you were along. May
the good Lord make your drives and your putts run straight. I'll see
you on the other side, your old neighbor and always friend, Bob Briggs
