Pentagon police officer James M. Feltis III died from complications resulting from injuries sustained in the line of duty, Defense Department officials said. On Jan. 11, a stolen vehicle that was attempting to elude a marked Alexandria police cruiser struck Feltis. The 41 year-old officer, a 12-year veteran of the Pentagon Police Department, was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. He never regained consciousness. During a Feb. 8 bedside ceremony attended by his wife, Feltis was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal of Valor for life-threatening injuries sustained during the performance of his official protection duties.

Officer Feltis is survived by his wife and daughter.
