Anderson County Sheriff's Deputy James
was hit by a car Friday night and was pronounced
dead
Saturday morning. Deputy Alex Burdette, 28, was trying to assist a
driver with car problems on Highway 81 near Hayes Road on Friday.
Officials with the Sheriff's Office said that's when another driver
hit him. Witnesses said Burdette was thrown back 30 to 40 feet from
the impact of the car. Burdette was airlifted by medical helicopter
to Greenville Memorial Hospital from the scene of the accident.
Burdette was on his way home at
the end of his shift when the accident occurred. Burdette had been
with the Sheriff's Office for four years and was also a Marine
veteran, . Burdette was in the intensive care unit at GMH when he
died early Saturday morning.
The Highway Patrol is investigating
the accident, but no charges had been filed as of Sunday morning.
Burdette is survived by his wife and father of two daughters.
