Patrolman the Decherd drug investigator on his way home from work
apparently encountered a slick area in the roadway. The trooper
noted that snow had been falling in the Franklin County area "for a
while" when the accident happened. Buckner was about 100 yards past
the bridge that crosses Woods Reservoir when he hit the slick spot.
Buckner's unmarked Jeep Laredo slid from the roadway and went
airborne, striking a tree, and the officer was then thrown from the
vehicle.
AEDC Security Officer Jackie Hensley, who was patrolling the area
around the lake, first discovered the wreckage. Hensley told the THP
officer that his "headlights reflected off the taillights of the
wrecked
vehicle." He then notified Franklin County authorities of the wreck.
Casey Matlock, a Franklin County deputy, arrived a short time later
and recognized the vehicle. Harris was assisted at the scene by Lt.
Danny Hall of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and several deputies from
the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, and AEDC Security and
Decherd police officers.
Buckner had served with the Decherd Police Department since 1998.

May your family find peace and strength. I know how it feels to
lose a family member in the line of duty. My prayers are with
you. They will be blessed for all that they did for us while
they were here and now they can all watch over us.
