Cause of Death:
Heart Attack

Suffolk Police Officer William A. Henley died after collapsing following a foot pursuit. Authorities say several officers were on patrol along the 300 block of Webb Street around 11:30pm when they noticed some suspicious activity and went to check it out. A foot pursuit ensued and an arrest was made, but shortly after the pursuit, Henley collapsed at the scene. Henley, was rushed to Obici Hospital where he died early the next morning. Officer Henley had been with the Suffolk Police Department since October of 2002.

The man arrested following the foot pursuit, Brian J. Ralph, was wanted on a misdemeanor assault and battery charge in Suffolk. Ralph was pursued for approximately 100 to 120 yards, when he was apprehended by Officer Henley.  During the pursuit there was a collision between Officer Henley and Ralph. Neither received serious injury as a result of that contact. After Ralph's arrest it was learned that he was a fugitive from the State of New Jersey, where he faces a narcotics violation charge. Ralph is in custody for the outstanding assault and battery charge.  Additional warrants for misdemeanor escape from custody, resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice will be secured.  In addition to the current charges, an additional charge for a narcotics violation is pending the result of a laboratory analysis.

Henley is survived by his wife and four children.
