Cause of Death:
Shot and killed

Chillicothe police officer Larry R. Cox was shot and killed by a man suspected of attempting to rob a gas station. Officers searching for the man ran down city streets with their guns drawn and some motorists were stopped so police could check their cars. Keener identified the slain officer as Larry Cox, a 19-year department veteran who was involved in drug education programs in area schools. The chief said a car stolen from a drug store about 8:40 p.m. was used in the attempted robbery 15 minutes later. The robbery led to a car chase, which turned into a foot pursuit. Cox was apparently walking home from his parents' home.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said the incident stemmed from a report of a stolen car and a robbery at a BP gas station. Police said the robber stole a car from a restaurant on North Bridge Street and robbed the BP on East Main Street. The man wore a mask and a hood during the robbery. Surveillance images from the BP robbery were released Friday evening. The robber then led police on a chase. Police said Cox, a DARE officer, was walking from his parents' house to his house when he heard about the chase and responded. The robber then drove his car into a nearby alley, where the shooting took place. Officers said they heard several gunshots. Cox was found with a gunshot wound to his neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was such a sweat guy and he brought a sense of comfort to my life. So officer Cox I salute you and I love you.

The easiest way for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing....Edmund Burke. There are people who think that we do the job to be heroes, or for personal gain. They could never understand that it is about the person next to you.

It is abundantly clear that ALL of your fallen officers shared a common thread - they were of the highest caliber yet modest and unassuming in the approach of their duties. I believe that for as long as such
men and women patrol your streets with such commitment and professionalism, then you have much to be proud of. My heart goes out to all the bereaved families, but be assured, there is someone in "every" corner of the world who cares!

May your family find peace and strength.  I know how it feels to lose a family member in the line of duty.  My prayers are with you.  They will be blessed for all that they did for us while they were here and now they can all watch over us.
