Police Officer Paris Williams
Philadelphia Police Department, Pennsylvania
End of Watch: June 21, 2005
Age:
52
Badge Number:
5592
Years on The Job:
18
Cause of Death:
Heart Attack

Officer Paris Williams, 52, an 18-year department veteran, was pronounced dead at Hahnemann University Hospital shortly after 1 p.m. Williams collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack Tuesday as police skirmished with protesters outside a biotechnology convention.

Williams was on duty as a plain-clothes officer and was helping to control the skirmish when he dropped to the ground in a large crowd. However, authorities did not think Williams was directly involved in a confrontation. Authorities closed the street in front of the Pennsylvania Convention Center to traffic as hundreds of protesters chanted and pounded on drums. A small number of demonstrators scuffled with police. About a half-dozen people were taken away by police.

Police made no arrests at the park, but did physically remove some skaters.

Officer Paris Williams was a widower and survived by his two children.

I reflect, and remember:
All gave some
And some gave all
Some stood through
For the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties
And recall Some gave all. (unknown writer)

The easiest way for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing....Edmund Burke. There are people who think that we do the job to be heroes, or for personal gain. They could never understand that it is about the person next to you.

It is abundantly clear that ALL of your fallen officers shared a common thread - they were of the highest caliber yet modest and unassuming in the approach of their duties. I believe that for as long as such
men and women patrol your streets with such commitment and professionalism, then you have much to be proud of. My heart goes out to all the bereaved families, but be assured, there is someone in "every" corner of the world who cares!
