Officer Daniel Golden, a three year veteran, was shot in the head moments after arriving to investigate a fight at a Mexican grocery and restaurant in the northern part of the city. It happened at 3:45 p.m. outside the Jalisco Grocery, in the parking lot of the Tequila Plaza Latina shopping center.
Officer Daniel Golden died about two hours later at Huntsville Hospital. Suspect 31-year-old Benito Albarran was taken into custody at the scene and charged with capital murder. Officer Golden had served with the agency for 3 years and was assigned to the West Precinct.
He is survived by his wife and two step-children.

There are no words. I find no words to describe the depths of anguish, pain and grief. To say I'm sorry for your loss is just not enough. Words provide no comfort but please know that we all grieve with you. Not one day goes by without you in our thoughts and prayers. Kelso was so special to all who knew him - I'm told that he lived like no one was watching and he was joyful in his soul. His smile was contagious. What a legacy to leave behind! May his legacy continue to live through you...

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Golden family. I will never forget learning of the tragic event the day after it happened. I had just printed my application for the Huntsville, AL police Dept. Even though I never knew him, he will be with me for all of my days now, in thought and in prayer. It will be an HONOR to walk a beat with Officer Golden in heaven when my number is called.
