Police Officer Michael Davey Weymouth Police Department, Massachusetts End of Watch: Monday, August 24, 2009 Age: 34 Years on The Job: 5 Badge Number: NA Cause of Death: Struck by vehicle   Officer Michael Davey, a 34-year-old father of three, had been directing traffic at a utility work site just before 10 a.m. near the intersection of West Street and Route 18. A Mazda pickup truck blew through a stop sign, struck the rear of another vehicle, and careened into the officer, pinning him against a utility truck, Norfolk District William R. Keating said at a news conference. Davey was pronounced dead shortly afterward at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, His father served on the Weymouth force for 32 years. The driver of the pickup, 79-year-old Ronald Gale of Weymouth, faces charges of motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and failure to stop for a stop sign. Gale's license was suspended after he was deemed an immediate threat.  Officer Davey was an Iraq War veteran and had served with the Weymouth Police Department for five years.
