Detention Sergeant Ronnie Brown Polk County Sheriff's Office, Florida End of Watch: Tuesday, September 8, 2009 Age: 48 Years on The Job: 20 Badge Number: 2896 Cause of Death: Assaulted   A Polk County Sheriff's Office detention sergeant died Tuesday morning following an altercation with an inmate at the South Polk County Jail in Frostproof. According to a report from the Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Ronnie Brown died at Winter Haven Hospital after having had surgery for a fractured vertebrae, which he suffered while trying to restrain an out-of-control inmate at the South County Jail on Aug. 30.  The Sheriff's Office is now conducting a homicide investigation into the death of Brown. Sergeant Brown had served with the Polk County Sheriff's Office for 20 years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
