Cleveland Heights Police officer 30-year-old Officer Thomas Patton, Jr., was assisting in an incident at the Marc's store on Coventry Road Saturday night.

Patton and two other officers engaged in a lengthy foot pursuit with the suspect, 21-year-old Malcolm Bryant. Patton stopped momentarily during the pursuit and rested his hands on his knees. When he tried to continue running but he collapsed. 
He was transported to Huron Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Coroner's report indicates the officer died of a cardiac incident.

Officer Patton had served with the Cleveland Heights Police Department, for seven years. He is survived by his daughter.
