Deputy Carol Scruggs Marshall County deputy died Friday after being injured in a one-vehicle accident on a rural road.

County Coroner Richard Anderson says Deputy Carol Scruggs lost control of her patrol car on Red Banks Road west of Holly Springs sometime before 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Anderson says Scruggs was ejected after the vehicle left the road and flipped several times.  He says Scruggs was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis where she was later pronounced dead.

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says Scruggs joined the sheriff's department in July 2006.  Dickerson says the accident is under investigation.

Deputy Scruggs had served with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department for four years.
