California Highway Patrol officer Brett
Oswald, 47, was killed while on duty Sunday night after a car driven by an
Atascadero woman reportedly hit him while he stood outside his patrol
vehicle in rural Paso Robles.
According to a CHP report, at approximately 5:54 p.m. Oswald responded to a
report of a vehicle-versus-tree collision near Spanish Camp on South River
Road in Paso Robles.
When he arrived, Oswald found an abandoned vehicle blocking the southbound
lane. According to the report, Oswald was struck while waiting outside his
CHP vehicle for a tow truck.
Oswald reportedly positioned his patrol vehicle facing southbound behind the
abandoned vehicle. Kaylee Weisenberg, 22, of Atascadero was heading
northbound on South River Road approaching the location at a high rate of
speed and reportedly lost control, crossed over double yellow lines and
struck the parked vehicle on the driver’s side door area.
Officer Oswald was transported to a local hospital where he later died from
his injuries. |
