Paul J. Fricke, 37, was southbound on Highway 47 just
outside of Hawk Point when his car slipped off the right side of the road
about 10:10 a.m., said Cpl. Jeff Wilson. He said Fricke overcorrected,
crossed the highway and hit a utility pole on the left side of the road. He
was pronounced dead at the scene. The Highway Patrol's website report on the crash
said Fricke was not wearing a seatbelt. Fricke worked part-time as the small Lincoln County
town's police chief. His full-time job was working for the Warren County
Sheriff's Department. The department's website listed him as a corporal in
the patrol division. He joined the Warren County Sheriff's Department in
2005, the same year he became police chief in Hawk Point. Wilson said the cause of the crash was under
investigation. He said Fricke was working for Hawk Point today. He said
investigators do not believe Fricke was involved in a pursuit at the time of
the crash.
